The first Arab Woman March under the slogan Sawa Sawa (together) is to take place in Beirut on Thursday, February 2nd. The march will start at the Four Seasons Hotel, heading towards the Serail in downtown Beirut, where participants will hand over a list of their demands to Lebanese Prime Minister, Najib Mikati.

This march comes in the framework of the New Arab Woman Forum (NAWF), organised yearly by Al Hasnaa Magazine and Al-Iktissad Wal-Aamal Group. NAWF in its fifth edition will be held on the 1st and 2nd of February 2012, under the patronage of the Minister of Social Affairs Wael Abou Faour, in collaboration with MBC Media Group and the French Institute in Lebanon.

Representatives of woman’s associations, youth organisations, and university students are to participate in the march, in addition to the forum’s prominent Arab and international participants, artists, writers, and women activists.

Arab women activists also confirmed their attendance and participation in the march, while others are organising marches in their own cities in solidarity with the event.

A sit-in will be organised in front of the premises of the Arab World Institute in Paris in solidarity with the event, raising Sawa Sawa slogans at the same hour on Thursday, February 2nd at 13:30, Paris local time.

Founder and Executive Director of the Forum and Editor-in-Chief of Al Hasnaa Magazine, Nadine Abou Zaki, stressed that the march will be a peaceful one in solidarity with the Arab Woman.

The invitation stated: Let’s walk Sawa Sawa, Men and Women, to proclaim: “No Spring without Women”.
